A building should only let in outdoor air at design points where it is intended. The ventilation should be efficiently distributed to areas where it is required. Tools in this category will help diagnose problems with the building envelope and air distribution within the space. Measurements possible with these tools include tracking air pressure, air quality, leakage, and air flow.
Humans exhale Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) as well as CO2. The BAPI sensor is able to measure these VOCs, therefore it is as good an indicator of space occupancy as a CO2 sensor. The BAPI Sensor is different from other VOC sensors because it has been optimized for Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV). Using a calibration algorithm, the sensor value is converted to an output with a high correlation to a CO2 level. This lets you use ASHRAE’s occupancy-based VRP schedule to ventilate.
The CDE and CWE are non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensors designed for measuring environmental CO2 concentration in ventilation systems and indoor living spaces. Their measurement range of 0 to 2000 ppm makes them compliant with ASHRAE and other standards for ventilation control
The CWE/CDE Series provides a user-selectable 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 Vdc output for versatility. Microprocessor-based digital electronics and a unique self-calibration algorithm improves long-term stability and accuracy.
The BAPI-Stat 3 CO2 Sensor is an accurate and reliable way of incorporating demand controlled ventilation into a building’s HVAC strategy. It has a field selectable output of 0-5 or 0-10V and has been optimized for periodically unoccupied areas. The unit features continuous automatic air pressure compensation for accurate readings despite the weather or the altitude of the installation, which earned the sensor a 2012 AHR Expo Innovation Award. The unit is available as CO2 alone or with temperature, humidity, temp setpoint and override.
The digital PXU Series differential pressure transducers utilize highly accurate, microprocessor profiled sensors. Designed to monitor duct and room pressure in commercial buildings, the PX Series offers exceptional job-site flexibility. The PXU features seven field-selectable ranges, allowing just one model to cover applications for 0-0.1” to 0-10” W.C. The directional mode jumper is used to configure the transducer in unidirectional or bidirectional mode for room and building static pressure applications. All models feature a pushbutton and digital input terminal to zero the output.
The FlowHood is a much more convenient alternative to time-consuming multiple velocity readings across air diffusers, as this instrument eliminates the need for the calculations necessary to convert the average velocity into air flow. The AirData Multimeter utilizes the Series 8400 FlowHood Kit for back-pressure compensated measurement of air flow. The FlowHood unit captures and directs the air flow from an outlet, or inlet, across the highly sensitive flow sensing manifold within the FlowHood base.
The SDT FLEX.US detector works like a super microphone, sensitive only to high frequency ultrasounds. Using a sensitive piezoelectric crystal as a sensor element, minute high frequency sound waves excite or “flex” the crystal creating an electrical pulse that is amplified and then “heterodyned” or translated into an audible frequency that the technician can hear through a pair of noise reduction headphones. The PV350 Pressure/Vacuum Transducer Module (the module) measures gauge pressure; the difference between atmospheric (barometric) pressure and the pressure (or vacuum) applied to the pressure port on the transducer. It then converts that measurement to 1 mV dc per unit. A module and a high-performance digital multimeter (DMM) with min/max function become a datalogger capable of measuring peak high and peak low.

The S220 Smoke Pen contains a patented smoke-emitting wick that is lit with a cigarette lighter or match. The glowing tip emits smoke for as long as you need. A single wick will emit smoke for up to half hour, but can be start and stopped by capping and relighting as needed. There is no waste; no mess—only safe non-toxic smoke. The unused portion of the wick stores safely in the barrel of the pen.
